Nothing restores my faith in humanity like participating in a marathon or half marathon.
You might think this is because of the hard work and determination the runners exemplify. Their perseverance is no doubt inspiring, but I’m actually referring to the people cheering on the runners.
Some of these individuals are unpaid volunteers who are giving their time for a good cause. The rest are there to support loved ones and cheer for everyone else who’s running. As a runner, it’s so nice to get to the top of a hill and see a few friendly faces clapping and telling you you’re doing a great job.
In any place of learning, this same “marathon environment” should be cultivated. In a marathon environment, everyone (teachers, students, administrators, parents, community members) supports each other. Cheering can be done for strangers and loved ones.
After all, we’re all in this together.
